School Field trip Season at Dalby is about to begin!
We are just a week or so away from the start of May and for us here at Dalby, that usually only means one thing… SCHOOLS!
Did you know my mom has been hosting school field trips here on the farm for 20 years? It was the very first thing she opened the farm with- after all, her number one goal was community education! What better way than to give handfuls of children (and chaperones alike!) a memorable outing with some special animals?
When I was younger, this entire piece of the farm didn’t much appeal to me. In my defense, I didn't have kids yet and often saw the tours at the farm as a mild inconvenience (have you seen our driveway with two school busses parked in it haha).
It wasn’t until I grew up that I began to fully appreciate the value of what my mom started. It wasn’t until I encountered random teenagers who cited our family farm as their favorite elementary school field trip. It wasn’t until my own daughter’s kindergarten teacher reached out to book their school field trip with us- that I understood how much our little farm was actively doing already… let alone what I know I’ll see it do moving ahead.
Anyway, if you’re a school teacher or a home school co-op - and you’re looking for ways to enrich your current curriculum- please reach out. We generally host self guided tours but I am happy to explore all possibilities!
